I asked Julie if she could arrange an interview with her main character, Ruby, from Rock My World and she was able to pin her down for me. 🙂 Here’s what she had to say.
Ruby Cameron – Rock My World
KR: What’s your name?
RC: I’m Ruby Cameron, a journalist with my local paper, “The Woodlands Reporter”.
KR: Where are you from?
RC: I’m Woodlands born and bred. I grew up here, went to school here, had my first kiss in the local park and careered around the local roads on my numerous driving lessons! I feel like I know every leafy walkway–but do I really know as much about my home town as I think I do?
KR: Ooooh, sounds like you discover something interesting. What’s your biggest pet peeve?
RC: Well, I love my boyfriend Luke. I just wish there was a bit more excitement. Sometimes, I wish Luke would be more spontaneous. I even wonder at times if he truly knows what the word means. His idea of being spontaneous is changing our shower cleaner.
KR: Ha! Is there someone special in your life?
RC: I suppose Luke is. Oh good grief, that didn’t sound very convincing, did it? He’s tall, blond and sporty. We’ve been living together for a while now and argue like a lot of couples (well, ok, we have been arguing more and more recently) but you can’t have everything…can you?
KR: Yes, you totally can have everything. 😉 What do you think is your best attribute?
RC: I think my best attribute is usually my hair. It’s blonde and naturally curly. On a good day, it can almost pass for the tumbling tresses of Stevie Nicks in her younger days.
On a bad day (and if I have the damp, Scottish rain to thank) I look like I’ve plugged myself into the nearest electrical socket. Or morphed into Sideshow Bob.
KR: Stevie Nicks is good. Sideshow Bob, not so much. What do you think is your worst attirbute?
RC: I can get a bit too involved in stories. Coming from an arty, almost bohemian background, I automatically champion the underdog and strive to do what’s right. Often, this can result in me putting my size five feet where I really shouldn’t…
KR: What is the thing you desire most?
RC: I would love something exciting to happen to me, even just once. Something that would not only make my personal life take on more meaning, but also my job as a local journalist too. Don’t get me wrong, I love what I do. It would just be great to feel I was really making a difference.
Thank you for this great interview Kate! X
Thanks for stopping by Ruby and Julie!
Rock My World, Blurb
Ruby Cameron is an ambitious reporter for a local paper where she is fed scraps of news, and lives with a man whose “idea of living dangerously is to leave the heating on when we pop out to the shops”. But after catching her squeaky clean boyfriend in flagrante delicto she ups sticks and moves into her own small home, only to discover the ghostly presence of a cheeky rock star who becomes her confidant as the dynamics of her small town, and her feelings about her dashing new boss, begin to throw up more questions than she can answer. Will Ruby discover who she really is, and perhaps more importantly, who she wants to be?
Julie ShackmanI trained as a journalist but writing romance has always been a dream of mine. When I’ve not got my head in a book or drafting one, I write verses and captions for greetings card companies. Writing at home seems to be incredibly difficult for me – I usually require coffee, music and noise.
“Rock My World” is my first contemporary romance novel . I have just finished writing my second novel and am polishing that at the moment whilst beginning to do some research for my third. These are also contemporary romances with a good dose of humour (hopefully!). I’m married, have two sons and live in Scotland.
