Romance Weekly

For those of you joining us from previous weeks, welcome back! For those of you just joining in, welcome to Romance Weekly where each week a bunch of us authors will answer the same three questions and you get to hop around from blog to blog and learn a little more about us. 🙂 The topic this week is by Jeanne McDonald and she asks: Outside of writing, what is your day job? What inspired you to take on this job and would you ever consider giving it to one of your characters?

This is such a great question because I don’t know if a lot of readers realize that many of us authors only write part-time. I work as an Advertising Officer for the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. Specifically, I work in the Strategic Staffing division and promote employment opportunities. Years ago, I worked in various roles with an advertising agency including media buyer, production supervisor, and accountant, which put me in a unique position and qualified me for this position because of my financial and marketing background.

I love my job. Recruitment marketing is very different from retail marketing and I get to analyze and suggest specific placements for specific positions. This position also helps me keep up on emerging online promotional trends.

I would consider giving this job to a character yes, but even more so, I would consider giving a character two jobs like me. My day starts early and ends late. I juggle family, day job, writing, friends, and me time. It’s an enormous amount of work, but I would not have it any other way. 🙂

That’s it for me this week so keep on hippity hoppin along over to Kate Forest to see how she answered the question. Until next week!!

Well I learned that Newfoundland and Labrador are places not dogs. If they are awesome as the breeds, they must be amazing places to visit. Thanks for adding a destination to my bucket list.

Your job sounds more like one part-time plus two full-time jobs! I love how many careers are posted by the RWW authors. Thanks for you post.

Wow, I’ve never known anyone in recruitment marketing before. Very cool!

One of our best family vacations EVER was in Newfoundland & Labrador. Fav places: L’anse aux Meadows & L’anse l’amour.
